“Hand in hand,” Toro announces Israel as new goalkeeper

First, the farewell to Vanja Milinkovic-Savic and then the announcement of Franco Israel's signing. The change of guard in Torino's goalkeeping had been in the works for days and now it's official after medicals, the players' signatures on their respective contracts, and the club announcements. Milinkovic-Savic leaves the Granata after eight years, during which he became a number one in the locker room and between the posts after a start full of mistakes and doubts, while Israel returns to Turin after playing for Juventus' Primavera and Under-23 teams from 2018 to 2002 .

The 25-year-old Uruguayan goalkeeper has never played in Serie A, but he won two Portuguese league titles with Sporting and made appearances in the Champions League and Europa League. To sign him, Torino paid €4 million to the Lisbon club, which in turn will pass almost half to Juventus, who retained a substantial percentage of the player's resale value . Israel has signed a contract until 2028 with an option for a further year. It's potentially a gamble, given that he was promoted to the starting lineup at Sporting last season by Amorim, only to return to the bench in early 2025 after the Portuguese manager left for Manchester United.

"Hand in hand: let's start together," was the motto used by Torino to introduce Israel on social media. Much more heartfelt, however, was the farewell message to Milinkovic-Savic after his loan deal to Napoli for €21.5 million with a mandatory buyout option in 2026. "Everyone at Torino thanks Vanja for his commitment, tenacity, and professionalism during his time at the club," the club commented, "and bids him farewell with affection, wishing him all the best for the rest of his career."

Israel is the fourth new face at Torino, following the signings of midfielder Anjorin, defender Ismajli, and winger Ngonge . The Granata team, however, is in full swing, and Zakaria Aboukhlal is expected to join them today or tomorrow. He will then undergo a medical and join the squad, which will return to training on Tuesday at the Filadelfia after the training camp in Prato allo Stelvio. The Moroccan winger is leaving Toulouse for €10 million (€2 million in bonuses) and will become a key player in Baroni's 4-2-3-1 formation : he has plenty of skill, dribbling, and goals.
